Chargers Injury Report Heading Into Monday Night

There is a lot of electricity in the air as the Los Angeles Chargers have a prime-time divisional game with the Raiders on tap for Monday Night. A win for the Los Angeles Chargers would be huge in divisional standings.

Both teams are coming into this game with most of their injuries on the defensive side of the ball. The Raiders are listing eight players on their injured list, the only non-defensive player is running back Josh Jacobs, who is listed with an ankle injury, and questionable heading into Monday.

The Raiders defensive players listed either participated in light or full practice and should be available for Monday night:

  • Nate Hobbs (CB) – He is dealing with a shoulder injury, but should play on Monday.
  • Dallin Leavitt (S) – He is coming back for a concussion, participated in full at practice on Thursday, and should play on Monday night.
  • Trayvon Mullen (CB) – Like Hobbs is dealing with a shoulder injury but should play on Monday.
  • Carl Nassib (DE) – Nassib is dealing with a Toe injury, but also should be available for Monday night.
  • Denzel Perryman (LB) – Perryman has an achilles/quad injury. Raiders are looking to also have him available for Monday.
  • Roderic Teamer (S) – Teamer is dealing with an ankle injury, but should play on Monday
  • Solomon Thomas (DE) – Thomas is listed with a knee, but participated in practice, and should play on Monday.

The Raiders do have a few players on injured reserve. Most notably veteran guards Denzelle Good and Richie Incognito. John Simpson and Jermaine Eluemunor will be starting in their place.

The Chargers are also showing eight players on their injury list for Monday’s match-up. With a few key players listed as questionable, or out it could be a long day for the Chargers defensive against a hot Raiders offense.

Chargers injuries to take note of during Monday night’s matchup:

Keenan Allen (WR) – Allen is dealing with an ankle injury, and participated in light practice all week. He should be available to play on Monday.

Joey Bosa (OLB) – Bosa is dealing with a foot/ankle injury. He was a full participant in practice all week, however. He will be active for the Chargers.

Alohi Gilman (S) – Gilman dealing with a hip injury, started with light practice and ended the week participating in full practice. He should be ok.

Darwin James Jr. (S) – James is still dealing with a toe/shoulder injury. He started off with light practice on Thursday and transitioned to full practice Friday, and Saturday. He should be available to play.

Matt Overton (LS) – Overton was a late addition to the injury report and was listed with a calf injury did not practice on Thursday, and participated in light practice Friday, and full practice Saturday. If this game becomes determined by field goals, he could be someone to watch.

Charger injuries that could make an impact:

Justin Jones (DL) – Jones is dealing with a calf injury. He started the week on light practice and was ruled OUT for Monday night on Saturday. This is a hit to the Chargers’ defensive line. Joe Gaziano was signed to the active roster to replace the recently waived Eric Banks. The Chargers will have to elevate Breiden Fehoko or Forrest Merrill to replace Jones for this game.

Chris Harris Jr. (CB) – Harris is dealing with a shoulder injury. He participated in light practice all week and is listed as questionable for Monday. Coach Staley said he is considered a true game-time decision on Monday. The Chargers have Kemon Hall and Tevaughn Campbell on the active roster so they don’t necessarily have to active anyone off the practice squad, but it is going to be interesting to see what Staley decides to do. Against the Cowboys, James actually moved from his safety spot to play in the slot/STAR role and Hall would rotate in sparingly. Last week it was Campbell who drew the assignment and he rewarded the team with an excellent game, forcing two fumbles and staying glued to Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman

Kenneth Murray Jr. (LB) – Murray has been struggling with an ankle injury ever since the Dallas game and had Chargers fans holding their breath after they were alerted that Murray had been carted off of practice after re-aggravating the injury. He was initially listed as questionable but has since been downgraded to OUT. There has not been any indication as to how serious the injury is so we will have to wait and see. Drue Tranquill will get the start in Murray’s place, and he has played well in spot duty this season. Rookie linebacker Nick Niemann is now third on the depth chart and they could opt to elevate Cole Christiansen off the practice squad for increased special teams flexibility.

With injuries hitting both teams primarily on defense, the offenses of both teams should be as explosive as normal. The question is going to be can the Bolts offense be charged enough to keep up, and surpass a hot Raiders offense in this divisional matchup.
