While Los Angeles Chargers fans are thrilled about Jim Harbaugh being their new head coach, one of his former bosses with whom he once had a poor relationship with is also surprisingly happy for the organization and sees big things for them in 2024 and beyond.
In January, the weeks of rumors and speculation came to an end when the Chargers agreed to make Michigan Wolverines program leader Jim Harbaugh their next head coach. The move was met with positivity around the league as the franchise got a coach who took the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl a decade ago and just won a National Championship with Michigan.

What is interesting about the recent praise Harbaugh and the Chargers have received is that some new acclaim came this week from an unexpected source: 49ers CEO Jed York. York and Harbaugh had a falling out that led to a “mutual” parting of ways back in 2015 despite Harbaugh having an impressive 44-19-1 run with the franchise.
Well, it seems that those issues have been ironed out and York believes LA can be a dominant force in the AFC for years to come.

“I congratulated them when [Michigan] won the championship game,” York told The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami during an appearance on “The TK Show.” ” We’ve texted back and forth. I think Jim is a hell of a coach. I think it’s a great spot for him. I’m excited for the Chargers. I think they will be very, very successful.”

“… I think with anything, people mature, time passes and you tend to remember a lot more of the good things than maybe not-so-good things. … I think it is a [Chargers] team that had talent, that didn’t achieve what they hoped to,” York added. “I don’t want to speak too much about somebody else’s team, but it’s certainly a talented team. I think he has the chance to do well with the Chargers. … Again, he’s a heck of a coach. He will do a heck of a job.”
While they will have a tough decision to play in with the Kansas City Chiefs on the verge of a second-straight Super Bowl title and the Las Vegas Raiders on the rise, the Chargers are in a far better position heading into 2024 with one of the elite coaches in the sport now leading the team.
