After seven years biding his time as a college football head coach, Jim Harbaugh finally got the big break he was waiting for in 2011 with the San Francisco 49ers. As head coach of the 49ers, Harbaugh never had a losing season, and he even came within four points of winning a Super Bowl, only to lose to his brother’s Ravens.
Yet, after four seasons in which he had a remarkable 44-19-1 win-loss record, Harbaugh was pushed out of San Francisco. This came despite Harbaugh holding the fifth-best coaching record in NFL history, with a career win rate of 69.5%.
Of course, Harbaugh wasn’t without a job for long. He’d quickly latch on as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, where he remained for nine seasons before winning the College Football Playoff National Championship.
Now, Harbaugh’s finally back where he belongs, in the NFL. So, what does it feel like to be back? The Los Angeles Chargers head coach had an answer that only he could provide.

Where does he come up with this stuff? Was that pre-planned, where he’s just waiting for the opportunity to unleash one of his typical odd quotes? Or was this truly off the top of his head, popping into his mind as soon as he heard the question? I guess we’ll never know, but we can’t wait to see what else Harbaugh has up his sleeves during his Chargers tenure.
