Points have come at a premium in the tilt between the Los Angeles Chargers and the New Orleans Saints. The two teams posted a paltry and just plain weird score of 9-5 in the Bolts’ favor.
With time ticking away in the first half, Justin Herbert was attempting to drive down the field to pick up a score before halftime. On this drive, the Chargers offense looked competent for the first time all day. Herbert connected with Will Dissly on a 16-yard pickup from their own 13-yard line, then a few plays later connected with Ladd McConkey on a 15-yard reception. After that, both Herbert and running back JK Dobbins each picked up a nine-yard run to put the ball at the New Orleans 20-yard line.
Greg Roman then decided to take a shot at the end zone. He called a play for Simi Fehoko — a fade route to the back corner of the end zone. Herbert uncorked the ball with the right touch and trajectory for Fehoko, who made the catch getting both feet inbounds. Touchdown!
Not so fast. The referee’s decided that Fehoko’s feet weren’t down in bounds, denying the touchdown. Head coach Jim Harbaugh was unable to challenge the call, as he lost a challenge earlier in the game.
Did the Refs get it right? Thank you to Nate Tice for posting the clip to X
