Is The Latest Los Angeles Chargers Trade Rumor A Trick Or Treat?

The NFL trade deadline is approaching on November 5th, but today is Halloween, a perfect time to hash out if trade rumors are nearly specters or if will it sweeten the Los Angeles Chargers roster. They have struggled with injuries and inconsistency this season, so many have seen them as buyers in the trade market

While many analysts believe the Chargers should prioritize acquiring a wide receiver, sports analyst from the Sporting News, Vinnie Iyer has a different idea. He predicts that they will trade for defensive end Chase Young from the New Orleans Saints.

Young has been frequently mentioned as a potential trade target for several teams. After signing a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints this offseason, Young could be on the move again before the trade deadline.

Young, a former second-overall pick, spent last season with the San Francisco 49ers after being traded by the Washington Commanders. Despite playing in the Super Bowl with the 49ers, he failed to secure a long-term contract with the team. By most accounts, he has failed to live up to the high expectations of a first-rounder. While he has racked up a good amount of quarterback pressures, he has logged only 2 sacks in eight games this season.

Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter could potentially unlock Young’s full potential. At just 25 years old, Young still has the potential to be a dominant pass rusher. Despite his inconsistency, he could still be a valuable addition to the Chargers’ defensive line. It may be surprising that a team that prioritized two edge rushers when settling their cap crunch this offseason, but the Chargers have one of the league’s worst pressure percentages. They are second to last, behind just the Carolina Panthers.

However, acquiring Young might not be the team’s most pressing need.

The Chargers’ primary concern should be bolstering their receiving corps. They have struggled to generate consistent offensive production due to injuries and generally poor play from their wide receivers. Adding a proven wide receiver could significantly improve their chances of competing for a playoff spot.
