It appears that Ezekiel Elliott will not make his debut for the Los Angeles Chargers in their upcoming playoff game against the Houston Texans.
Despite the excitement surrounding his recent signing to the practice squad and the encouraging messages he received from head coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterback Justin Herbert, Elliott was not elevated to the active roster for the playoff game.
Latest Los Angeles Chargers Game Status Update
Elliott’s chances of making the active roster for the playoff game were slim, given the short timeframe since his free agency signing. But the injuries to running backs JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards forced the hand of the organization. Both are dealing with ankle injuries. Dobbins is listed as questionable for the game while Edwards was a full participant and will play.
After getting off to a good start the Chargers ground game has ground to a halt. Runs this season have been successful only 37 percent of the time, sixth worst in the league.
Both wide receivers, Quentin Johnston and Simi Fehoko will head into the game listed as questionable. While WR Josh Palmer has been ruled out.
Instead of elevating Ezekiel Elliott, the Chargers opted to promote safety Eddie Jackson and running back Jaret Patterson from the practice squad to the active roster for their playoff game against the Houston Texans.
Patterson, an undrafted free agent in 2021, rejoined the Chargers in January after being waived in August.
