The Los Angeles Chargers have been connected to every wide receiver trade target since the rumor mill started churning a month into the season. They have missed or have not been in the market for Davante Adams, DeAndre Hopkins, Amari Cooper, and Diontae Johnson.
Chargers Fail To Trade for Williams
The latest whiff on a receiver is former Charger great Mike Williams, who was traded from the New York Jets to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a fifth-round pick. The Bolts cut Williams in March of this year. Diana Russini reported that the Bolts were in the mix for the 8th-year pass catcher.
Williams struggled to find his place in a stacked WR corps, that recently added Aaron Rodgers-favorite, Davante Adams. Williams had just 21 targets in nine games. Adams has been targeted 26 times in three games. Williams caught 12 of those targets for 166 yards.
As a Charger, Williams was a menace when healthy. In 88 games with the team, he caught 321 passes for 4972 yards and 31 touchdowns.
Other Targets Still In Play
The latest report is that the Chargers are also on the hunt for New England Patriots’ KJ Osborn or New York Giants’ Darius Slayton.
Osborn proved in his time with the Minnesota Vikings to be a quality receiver but has never shown that he is a number-one threat. Slayton has shown excellent upside potential, even in a less-than-stellar Giants offense.
