The Los Angeles Chargers‘ victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in the season finale was overshadowed by the injury to star offensive tackle Rashawn Slater. Slater was unexpectedly ruled out of the game due to knee discomfort experienced during pregame warmups.
In his post-game press conference, head coach Jim Harbaugh revealed that Slater would undergo an MRI to assess the extent of his knee injury. This news comes as a significant concern, as Slater is a cornerstone of their offensive line and will face the Houston Texans this Saturday in the NFL’s Wild Card playoff round.
Chargers LT Rashawn Slater To Have MRI
Houston boasts two of the top ten pass rushers in ESPN’s pass rush win rate. The new addition, Danielle Hunter leads all pass rushers with a PRWR of 26 percent, and sophomore Will Anderson comes in at seventh place with 22 percent.
The team was already forced to make significant adjustments to their offensive line due to Slater’s absence, including moving Trey Pipkins III, who subsequently suffered an injury and required medical attention on the sideline.
Despite the injuries, the Chargers were able to offer Justin Herbert exceptional pass protection — allowing just three pressures on 38 dropbacks.
The Chargers opted to move rookie Joe Alt to the left side, which could be the answer if Slater misses extended time. Trey Pipkins also has experience playing right tackle and Jamree Salyer could slot in at right guard. No update has been given on the severity of Pipkins’ injury.
