Chargers Trade Rumors Intensify After Stunning Admission From Disgruntled WR

Following the Miami Dolphins’ elimination from playoff contention, star wide receiver Tyreek Hill essentially ended his tenure with the team.

“It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I gotta do what’s best for my career, because I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there,” Hill told reporters after Sunday’s loss to the New York Jets.

As Hill appears poised for a change of scenery, speculation regarding his potential landing spots will undoubtedly intensify in the coming weeks. Many have pointed the All-Pro receiver to look west for his new home — Los Angeles Chargers.

The 33rd Team named the Chargers among three top trade destinations, suggesting LA could land Hill for a 2025 2nd-round draft pick. They also suggested trades to the Raiders and Arizona Cardinals

Bleacher Report sees Hill and the Chargers as a perfect pairing, elevating Justin Herbert’s arsenal as well as fulfilling Hill’s desire to play on a contending team. BR writes;

Justin Herbert wasn’t tasked with as large of a role in Los Angeles’ offense compared to past years, but he remained efficient in the pocket. He completed 65.9 percent of his throws for 3,870 yards and 23 touchdowns compared to a mere three interceptions. Still, his average of 227.6 yards per game through the air was a career-low mark.

Rookie receiver Ladd McConkey immediately proved to be a key contributor in the Chargers’ passing attack, and the opportunity to pair him with a playoff-experienced veteran such as Hill could help Los Angeles establish itself as a Super Bowl contender if the team can’t make it to the title game this season.

The Chargers should have no issue absorbing Hill’s salary, as they’ll have $74.4 million in 2025 cap space (via Spotrac).

If Los Angeles wants to bolster its weapons surrounding Herbert, Hill is an intriguing candidate.

Bleacher Report included the Washington Commanders and Denver Broncos in their potential trade partners list.

Despite a relatively underwhelming 2024 season, where he recorded 81 receptions for 959 yards and six touchdowns, Hill’s trade value remains high, particularly given his 2023 campaign where he led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdown catches.

Hill’s potential exit comes as a surprise, considering he signed a restructured three-year, $90 million contract with the Dolphins in August 2024. However, the team’s failure to achieve sustained success in the playoffs has seemingly solidified his decision.
