Possible Trouble Brewing For Chargers After Latest Injury Report

The Los Angeles Chargers have long needed a reliable option at tight end and it has become even more important not that Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman are running the show. The last time the two worked together, they had Pro Bowler, Vernon Davis. When Roman was in Baltimore with the Ravens he had All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews.

The Chargers looked for short-term options this offseason to address the position. They signed Hayden Hurst, Will Dissly, Stone Smartt, and Tucker Fisk.

Now, just days after they moved Hurst to the injured reserve, Dissly was listed on the first injury report of the week. He did not practice due to a groin injury.

Tight ends have always been featured heavily in Jim Harbaugh’s offenses and that has followed suit with the Chargers. Tight ends have accounted for 22 percent of all of Justin Herbert’s targets. Dissly has been his second-favorite target this year, behind just Ladd McConkey. His 50 targets are tied for 13th most among all tight ends.

He has already set personal career highs in receptions and receiving yards.

If Dissly is unable to go it is unclear who they will turn to fill his role. Smartt and Fisk have played a small amount this season. They also have Eric Tomlinson on the practice squad. Tomlinson has played the most among the healthy tight ends on the roster. He has played 34 percent of snaps from Week 6 through Week 9. In that time he caught three passes for nine yards.
