Former Los Angeles Chargers QB Reveals Jim Harbaugh’s Interest in Signing Star Running Back

After hiring Jim Harbaugh as their new Head Coach, the Los Angeles Chargers became the talk of the town. Harbaugh had his introductory press conference yesterday at the YouTube Theater next to SoFi Stadium where he dropped some great nuggets from Ted Lasso to winning multiple championships.

But now a former Chargers player just left some breadcrumbs that should have Bolt fans very excited.

Ryan Leaf will not go down as a storied quarterback in Chargers lore, but since being out of the league he has certainly turned his life around and rekindled relationships within the Chargers organization. He now has his own show and makes countless appearances across the football spectrum.

Today, on Good Morning Football, he talked about chatting with Jim Harbaugh a week ago and then dropped this juicy breadcrumb.

Austin Ekeler is a big part of what could be, with them running the football, but I do think that Saquon Barkley is going to be at the top of his list…”

Whoa. The thought of Saquon Barkley in the powder blues has to get Chargers fans excited. Barkley is going to be a free agent, so this is a real possibility. The New York Giants can place the Franchise Tag on Barkley for the second time in a row, but if they don’t, he will be able to hit the market and Los Angeles will be one of his most enticing destinations with Justin Herbert, Jim Harbaugh, and other star players.

The biggest problem is that the Chargers are currently about $44 million over the cap heading into the offseason. They will have some work to do to get back in the black, let alone free up space to offer one of the top backs in the league. Spotrac projects Barkley’s market value at $9.9 million per year.

However, if Jim Harbaugh wants this to happen, based on everything the Spanos Family and the Chargers Organization have done thus far, you have to believe that it is firmly on the table.

Without knowing if the Giants will tag Barkley or not, we will put the likelihood of this happening at 60/40. Thoughts Bolt Fam?
