Los Angeles Chargers Player Demonstrates Grit After Double Root Canal Before Practice

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

After a pretty successful rookie campaign, Los Angeles Chargers offensive guard Zion Johnson had a bit of a disappointing sophomore season. He and the rest of the offensive line are looking for a big rebound under Jim Harbaugh and the new coaching staff.

Since the start of training camp, we have seen a bit of a transformation with Johnson, particularly in the gains department. But his coaches have been raving about him, which has to have Chargers fans excited.

Most recently after Tuesday’s practice, offensive coordinator Greg Roman had this to say about him:

“…he had like a double root canal the other day at 1 o’clock and was on the field practicing at 3…it’s unbelievable. This guy, it’s machine-like. Love Zion, his work ethic, his attention to detail, every single day, it never changes.”

Los Angeles Chargers OL Zion Johnson Is That Dude

This is a pretty glowing review and definitely speaks to the fact that Johnson is expected to have a bounce-back season.

Having a double root canal and then going straight to practice is pretty insane. This doesn’t necessarily mean it will translate to success on the field, but it certainly shows his commitment to the team and continuing to get better. Every practice matters and is an opportunity to improve and grow.

The Los Angeles Chargers offensive line has the opportunity to be one of the best units in the entire NFL. With three first-round picks and two very capable starters in Bozeman and Pipkins, this unit is poised for a rebound.

Rashawn Slater was the 13th overall pick in the 2021 draft, Johson was selected 17th overall in 2022, and Joe Alt was the 5th selection in this past draft. The sky is the limit.
