St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado turned down a trade to the Houston Astros because he reportedly wanted to hear from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Based on new reporting, the Dodgers may have never been interested in signing the 10-time gold glove winner. Per The Athletic’s Katie Woo, they “were long believed to be a top choice for the Southern California native, but they were not engaged in Arenado talks this winter.”
Dodgers/ Cardinals Trade Talks Status Updated
Following a series of Instagram posts featuring the song “Dodger Blue” by Kendrick Lamar, Arenado was quickly linked to a potential trade to LA. However, despite his expressed desire to join a contending team, it appears that the Dodgers trade rumors were one-sided.

This suggests that they are satisfied with Max Muncy and Chris Taylor at the position despite average offensive and defensive showings in 2024. They also added infield utility man Hyeseong Kim and traded second baseman Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds.
Following Arenado’s rejection of a proposed trade to the Houston Astros, his potential departure from St. Louis appears less likely. The Cardinals have indicated a reluctance to trade Arenado unless the acquiring team assumes a significant portion of his remaining salary.
The possibility of Arenado joining LA, once considered a realistic scenario, now seems less probable. These factors suggest that Arenado may remain with the Cardinals until at least the July trade deadline.
