The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series with one of the deepest and most talented rosters in baseball. Now with MLB free agency underway and big names on the club’s radar, it appears a key member of the Dodgers roster might be traded this offseason.
Dodgers rumors this offseason have already tied the team to top starting pitchers in MLB free agency, including Roki Sasaki and Corbin Burnes, along with top hitters such as Willy Adames and Juan Soto. Meanwhile, recent Dodgers news indicated how the club will approach the winter.

Los Angeles announced that All-Star hitter Mookie Betts will likely move back to the infield in 2025, primarily playing shortstop and second base. It comes after the club moved him back to the outfield late after he returned from the injured list, but the intention remains to shift him back to the infield.
With Betts shifting to the infield and Teoscar Hernandez hitting the open market, the outfield becomes a more glaring need for Los Angeles. It also opens up the door to a potential offseason trade involving one of the club’s former top prospects.
- Gavin Lux stats (ESPN): .251/.320/.383, .703 OPS, 10 home runs, 24 doubles, 50 RBI
During an appearance on Foul Territory, Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic shared that infielder Gavin Lux is the “odd man out” on the Dodgers roster.
“He kinda seems like the odd man out with this news. I think when you look at the Dodgers, certainly Lux becomes expendable.”

Gavin Lux Odd Man Out For Los Angeles Dodgers?
Lux often hit near the bottom of the Dodgers lineup, proving to be one of the team’s least impactful hitters. While he still cleared a 700 OPS, the 26-year-old infielder ranked in the 53rd percentile for Baseball Savant‘s Batting Run Value and he finished in the 25th percentile for Fielding Run Value.
Defene has always been an issue for Lux. He finished last season with a -2 Outs Above Average and has one of the weaker arms at his position. Los Angeles has tried him at both second base and shortstop, but the former top prospect just hasn’t become what the organization hoped for.

Considering his club-friendly contract, age and pedigree, there should still be significant interest in Lux around baseball this offseason. The Dodgers could flip him for a starting pitcher, viewing that as a more affordable path than dumping significant money into the position. Los Angeles might also simply flip him for prospects that it can develop for a few years, a strategy that has worked very well in recent seasons.
