Yesterday, one of the greatest American athletes celebrated his 40th birthday: NBA legend LeBron James. James is in his 22nd season in the NBA and is still playing basketball at an elite level.
The four-time champion and four-time league MVP has had many great games over the years that left fans in awe.
With that in mind, we are giving his 10 greatest career games, whether from the regular season or playoffs. Buckle up and take a trip down memory lane.
56 points In Toronto On March 22, 2005
In only his second season, James had become one of the best players in the league and was must-see television. In a game against the Raptors in March 2005, it seemed like every shot he attempted was going in.
Despite the Cavaliers falling short 105-98, James put on a show. He scored 56 points on 18-36 from the field and also had 10 rebounds. James became the youngest player in NBA history to score 50 or more in a game at age 20.

61 Points Against The Charlotte Bobcats On March 3, 2014
In what’s been LeBron James’ highest career scoring game to date, James was in the zone against the Charlotte Bobcats in 2014.
He scored 61 points on 22-33 from the field, including eight of 10 from three-point range. He also had seven rebounds and four assists. The Heat would win comfortably, 122-107.
He has come close to reaching the 60-point plateau a few other times, including the next game we put on our list.
LeBron James Posts 57 Points, 11 rebounds Against The Washington Wizards On November 3, 2017
The 2017-18 season was one of many ups and downs for the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, LeBron James was still at the top of his game and it showed in a masterful game against the Washington Wizards.
With Cleveland undermanned due to injuries, LeBron James did a little bit of everything and recorded the third-highest-scoring game of his career.
Here was his final stat line: 57 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocks. The Cavs would beat the Wizards 130-122.
Game Five, 2016 NBA Finals Against The Golden State Warriors
In the 2016 NBA Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers dug themselves a 3-1 hole. Going back to Oakland, LeBron James knew he had to put on three consecutive great performances to give the Cavs any chance to win a championship.
It started in game five. The performance was nothing short of dominant.
James put up 41 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists on 16-30 from the field. He and Kyrie Irving combined for 82 points which is the most that a pair of teammates have combined for in a Finals game. Cleveland won game five comfortably, 112-97 to force a game six.

Masterpiece In Milwaukee On February 20, 2009: 55 points, Nine Assists
For the second time in the month, James put up a 50-point game. However, there was a stretch where he completely took over and left the Bucks crowd speechless.
LeBron James put up 16 straight points in a span of two minutes and 50 seconds of gameplay.
After a bank shot off the glass early in the third quarter for two, he got hot from the perimeter making four consecutive threes to erase the 57-51 halftime deficit to singlehandedly give the Cavs the lead by six.
He then made another jump shot to extend the lead to 69-61 in the third. In all, James scored 55, which included seven three-pointers. Cleveland would win the game 111-103.
56 Points Against The Warriors, March 5, 2022
The Los Angeles Lakers 2021-22 season was a disappointment as they missed the playoffs, but King James himself provided one shining moment.
Los Angeles was on a four-game losing streak desperate for a win. In a thrilling game against the Golden State Warriors, James scored his most points in a Lakers uniform putting up 56 to carry the Lakers to a 124-116 victory. It was a much-needed win.
52-Point Triple-Double At Madison Square Garden On February 4, 2009
Madison Square Garden has been the centerpiece of great performances from NBA players. LeBron James’ performance on February 4, 2009, against the Knicks is no exception.
Following up Kobe Bryant’s 61-point masterpiece against the Knicks two days earlier, LeBron James produced a masterpiece of his own with a 50-point triple-double: 52 points on 17-33 from the field, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds. The Cavs would win the game 107-102.
By the way, the other player to record a triple-double and score 50+ points? Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Not too shabby.
Game Seven, 2016 NBA Finals Against The Golden State Warriors
Much like game five of the 2016 Finals, game seven was another vintage LeBron James performance. He followed up back-to-back 41-point games in games five and six with a triple-double in game seven. 27 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists.
However, there was one iconic play that everyone remembers: The Block.
With the game tied at 89 and hanging in the balance in the fourth quarter, James delivered one of his iconic chase-down blocks to keep the game tied.
The Cavaliers would win game seven 93-89 to complete a historic comeback after trailing 3-1 in the series. They are the only team to win the Finals overcoming a 3-1 deficit.

Game Six, 2012 Eastern Conference Finals Against The Boston Celtics
In a game that many believe turned his legacy around, LeBron James led the Miami Heat to a dominant game-six win in Boston. Down three games to two, he took matters into his own hands right from the beginning.
He scored 30 points in the first half alone, going 12-14 from the field. In all, he finished with 45 points on 19-26 from the field, 15 rebounds, and five assists to carry the Heat to a 98-79 blowout win and force a game seven.
Game Five, 2007 Eastern Conference Finals Against The Detroit Pistons
To this day, this performance stands alone as the greatest in his career and easily tops our list. In game five of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Detroit Pistons in 2007, it was the fourth quarter and double overtime session in particular that made this game legendary.
LeBron James led the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 109-107 double-overtime win. He scored 25 consecutive points and 29 of the Cavs last 30 points in the 4th quarter and the two overtime periods. In all, he scored 48 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.
Cleveland would take a 3-2 series lead to steal home court but the Cavs would lose game six only to win game seven and advance to the NBA Finals.
