Los Angeles Lakers Eyeing Trade For Big Man, More Ideal Than Walker Kessler

As the NBA trade deadline approaches, the Los Angeles Lakers are once again the subject of intense trade speculation. Following the recent acquisition of Dorian Finney-Smith, the team has reportedly shifted its focus to strengthening its frontcourt, with Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner emerging as a key target, via NBA trade rumors.

Lakers insider Jovan Buha has shared insights into the situation, stating, “I have heard a little bit of chatter about that… If Myles Turner is available, I think if you’re the Lakers you have to go get him because he just fits perfectly next to AD on both sides of the floor… That would be the ideal even I’d say over Walker Kessler.”

Turner, currently in the final year of his contract with the Indiana Pacers after signing a two-year, $40.9 million extension before the 2023-24 season, is a highly sought-after trade target as the NBA trade deadline approaches.

With Turner set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season, the Pacers may opt to trade him before the deadline to acquire valuable assets in return, rather than risk losing him without compensation.

The Los Angeles Lakers are closely monitoring Turner’s situation, recognizing the potential value he could bring to their frontcourt. Acquiring Turner would provide a significant defensive upgrade, enabling Anthony Davis to shift to his more natural power forward position and bolster the Lakers’ overall size and defensive presence.

Lakers superstars, LeBron James and Anthony Davis have expressed their desire for the team’s brass to make improvement to the roster, Davis specifically wanting a big man to complement his skill set. Reporting suggests that the front office is not looking for a blockbuster trade, but NBA trade rumors suggest they are looking for a smaller move.

“I think we need another big, I feel like I’ve always been at my best when I’ve been the 4 (power forward) and having another big out there,” Davis said in a conversation with ESPN’s Shams Charania. “We know it worked when we won the championship with JaVale (McGee) and Dwight (Howard) at the 5 and I’m at the 4.”

The Lakers have been associated with several centers through NBA trade rumors, including Walker Kessler, Robert Williams III, Jonas Valanciunas, and others.
