After months of speculation linking Bronny James to the Los Angeles Lakers, he finally landed with his dad’s team as the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. While Bronny’s roster spot is secure, it’s not quite clear what his role will be on a team that’s all in on trying to capitalize on LeBron James’ fading championship window.

Chances are, the 20-year-old will spend a majority of the season with the South Bay Lakers, of the G League. Yet, that doesn’t mean he won’t get to play with the NBA Lakers either. It could even happen earlier than you think.

If/when Bronny James and LeBron James get onto the court together, they’ll instantly make history, becoming the first-ever father-son duo to share the same floor in an NBA game. No one knows when that game will happen. But NBA insider Shams Charania recently indicated it could even come in the Lakers’ regular season opener on Oct. 22 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Shams says, “We’re going to be seeing history very, very soon.”

For the Lakers, it makes a lot more sense to get this historic achievement out of the way early on, when they can ensure a 39-year-old LeBron is as close to 100% as possible. The same goes for Bronny, who likely won’t hold back any time he gets to see the floor, whether it’s in practice or in a live game.

Not to mention, the Lakers don’t want to be playing games with their rotation later in the season when they’re chasing the best playoff seeding they can possibly get. So it only makes sense for Bronny and LeBron to share the floor at some point in the Lakers’ regular-season opener, especially since it will be at home in front of 20,000 screaming fans at crypto.com Arena.
