Injuries are like zits of the football world. No one wants them, everyone gets them, and you do everything you can to get rid of them before the big date. The Los Angeles Rams are no exception to this. While they have been exceptional at keeping and getting players healthy, they will enter training camp with a handful of players already banged up.
Clubs aren’t required to give updates or details about preseason injuries and coaching staff’s updates are often kept vague.
Los Angeles Rams Injuries to Watch at Training Camp
Kyren Williams – Foot Injury
Kyren Williams didn’t enter the league with an injury history, but he didn’t waste any time racking them up once he was drafted by the Rams. He fractured his foot in the spring of his rookie year. Then dealt with a high ankle sprain, missing eight games of that season. Last year, he once again suffered a high ankle sprain landing him on the injury reserve for five weeks.
Now, he is once again dealing with a foot issue, in the same foot that he broke in 2022. Williams was a big reason the Rams were able to make a playoff run to end the year last season. Newly drafted running back, Blake Corum doesn’t come in with a clean bill of health, having his meniscus surgically repaired between 2022 and 2023.
Williams has missed 12 games in two seasons due to injury.
Sean McVay was confident that Williams would be ready to participate in training camp.
Tre’Davious White – Achilles/Knee
Tre’Davious White has played a total of 10 games over the last two seasons and has had surgery twice to repair his ACL in 2022 and Achilles in 2023.
The Rams defense will be in a precarious position if White isn’t able to return to his pre-injury form or can’t find health again. The Rams added him and Darious Williams to inject veteran experience into a very young defense. White will likely be required to take on a significant workload this season.
Sean McVay said White was making ‘good progress,’ working on the sidelines during minicamps and OTAs. As for the near future, McVay was less optimistic.
“As far as what his actual process will be in training camp, we’ll see where he’s at,” said McVay.
“Neil ElAttrache (Head Team Physician) checks up on him and what’s going to be the best thing for him, not only for hopefully being ready to go for the opener but for the totality of the season.”
More Notable Injuries
Ernest Jones – “He’s had a little issue with his knee, but we expect him – he’s making good progress,” McVay said. “With the offseason winding down, the goal is to be ready to go and feel good for training camp.”
Rob Havenstein – “Same thing with Rob,” McVay added. “He’s had a little knee soreness as well. Nothing to be concerned about. These are guys that have played a lot of football, so we err on the side of caution.”
Jonah Jackson – Jackson missed several weeks in 2023 with an ankle injury and a knee injury. He underwent surgery to repair a tear in his meniscus. “We’re just being smart with him,” McVay said. “He had some things after the season that we’re just not quite ready for… He’s done a lot of stuff as it relates to just jog throughs, the mental stuff, making good progress, but when he’ll be able to take part in the full 11-on-11 stuff, we expect that to happen at some point this offseason but right now we want to be smart with him.”
Tyler Higbee – Will miss all of Rams training camp and likely several weeks of the season. Tight end Hunter Long returned to practice after MCL repair surgery last season.
