It seemed for a moment that needy NFL coaching staffs would not poach any significant coaches from the Los Angeles Rams staff this year, but as as been the custom in the Sean McVay era at least one team has come a’knockin’.
Once it became apparent that the New York Jets would be hiring Aaron Glenn reports surfaced about who he would look to hire as the all important coordinator spots. SNYtv’s Conor Hughes identified Steve Wilks as the lead to get the defensive coordinator spot and that he had narrowed his search for offensive coordinator to Scott Turner and the Rams tight end coach Nick Caley. Hughes identified this as the most important hire Glenn will make.
While this is the first job offer to reach the surface, Hughes predicts Caley to garner plenty of offers.
Los Angeles Rams Likely Poached By New York Jets
The soon to be 42 year old, is an integral member of the Los Angeles Rams’ coaching staff. Prior to joining the Rams, he spent eight seasons with the New England Patriots, primarily serving as their tight ends coach.
Upon his arrival in Los Angeles in 2023, Caley oversaw the development of the tight end position. This season, his responsibilities expanded further with the addition of the “pass game coordinator” role to his coaching duties.
McVay has long been an admirer of Bill Belichick’s coaching legacy and has been unequivocal in his praise for Caley. When hired the general sentiment was that he wouldn’t be long for his role. But, in 2024, he turned down the offensive coordinator job under New England’s new head coaching regime to stay with the Rams in a less prestigious role.
He is also an alum of John Carroll University.
