Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has suffered a lateral ankle sprain in their recent victory over the New Orleans Saints. According to Sean McVay via Gary Klein of the LA Times, Stafford is expected to follow his usual preparation routine and is expected to start against the Buffalo Bills at SoFi Stadium — a rematch of the horrific 2022 post-Super Bowl season opener.
Los Angeles Rams QB, Stafford Expected To Play Vs. Bills
The Rams’ offensive line has struggled to protect Stafford this season, resulting in a league-leading number of hits on the soon-to-be 37-year-old quarterback.
The upcoming matchup against the Bills presents a significant challenge for the Rams. The Bills’ defense has been dominant, especially in their recent victory over the San Francisco 49ers. If Stafford’s mobility is limited by the ankle injury, it could further hinder the Rams’ offensive performance. Stafford has already looked far less mobile this season than in recent years. Stafford was injured on just his second scramble of the season (His first came just one week ago).
Stafford’s completion percentage of just 58.3 and passing yardage of 183 yards were the second worst of his season in both statistics. He has only had 16 games out of 218 to go for 183 yards or less.
If Stafford is unable to play, the Rams have Jimmy Garoppolo as his backup on the quarterback depth chart.
