The Los Angeles Rams‘ 2024 season concluded last week with a 28-22 defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs.
Despite a challenging start to the season, with a record of 1-4, the Rams demonstrated remarkable resilience, finishing the remaining portion of the regular season with a strong 9-3 record and ultimately securing the NFC West crown.
Following the hard-fought loss to the Eagles, Rams starting quarterback Matthew Stafford was asked about his future plans and whether he intends to continue playing football. In response, Stafford indicated that he would require some time for reflection before making a decision regarding his future, as reported by ESPN’s Sarah Bishop.
This has fueled all manner of Stafford trade ideas, from feasible to outlandish.
Matthew Stafford To Miami Dolphins For Who?
Despite Stafford’s recent success, Nick Wright of FS1 has proposed a surprising trade scenario involving Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, a trade that, in his view, would not necessarily benefit the team.
Wright suggested that, if the Rams are seeking to rejuvenate their roster, they should consider trading Stafford to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Wright’s one argument centered specifically on the Rams’ supposed desire to get younger at the position. Which has never been at the heart of why they might move on from him. It is a financial pickle they have put themselves in with an overly expensive offense, at which Stafford is the costliest element.
This trade, barring a contract renegotiation, would swap almost exactly the same cap hit, Stafford being $10 million more expensive than Tua in that regard. But Tagovailoa is set to snag $50 million in guaranteed money next season.
The Rams are certainly in a precarious place with Stafford and there is a big chance that they will make a change, this proposal isn’t just bad from a talent perspective, it lacks credibility from a nuts and bolts perspective.
