Another Los Angeles Rams Veteran Faces Uncertain Future, Retirement Possible

The prevailing sentiment coming out of the Los Angeles Rams locker room after their Divisional Round playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles was one of uncertainty. Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp grabbed the most headlines with their comments echoing the precarious nature of their future. Stafford specifically voiced that he was considering retirement, later it was reported that Stafford had played several games with broken ribs.

Rams long-time right tackle, Rob Havenstein is also considering hanging ’em up. Speaking with The Athletic, Havenstein acknowledged the need to carefully consider his future in the NFL.

“Honestly, I’m gonna take the time to go home and be a dad for a little while,” he said, his voice shaking slightly, “see what that looks like. Most of us older guys, usually it’s the second day after a game that kind of you really start feeling the woes. I’m gonna take this week, be a good dad, and then we’ll talk with the wife and everything.”

The 32-year-old veteran is entering the final year of the three-year, $34.5 million extension he signed in 2022. With no remaining guaranteed money in 2025 and a significant cap hit of $11.3 million, he is also likely among the question marks from the team’s perspective.

Havenstein’s recent injury history, which includes missing six regular-season games this year, further complicates his future with the team. He also missed three games last season due to injury.

As one of the few remaining members of the Super Bowl LVI-winning core, Havenstein holds a special place within the Rams organization. He has been a key contributor since Sean McVay’s arrival in 2017, making him valuable both as a player and as a team leader.

Despite his uncertain future, the pull to stay with the Los Angeles Rams remains strong. Havenstein expressed his desire to stay with the franchise for the foreseeable future, per The Athletic.

“But I still love playing. I still love this team. It’s a special building. I’ve been here for 10 years. I love this place.”
