The Los Angeles Rams are in a precarious place. Right now, Matthew Stafford is less than 100% positive he will continue playing football. With the Senior Bowl waiting for no one, the Rams most likely are adding a few more minutes to look at the quarterbacks, just in case.
As such, what a quarterback says might have an impact on whether the Rams choose them. Of course, even if Stafford sticks around, a later-round insurance pick used on a quarterback prospect might be in the cards. If that insurance pick becomes Tyler Shough, he’s made it clear how open he would be to join Sean McVay.
Speaking in comments made at the Senior Bowl, Shough was given a list of teams, asking if he might be interested in them, including the Rams.
“Yeah, I love them all, love them all. Any opportunity. I’m ready for it to go into,” Shough said.
LAFB dug a little deeper, trying to identify the bar Shough is setting for himself in the NFL.
“How would you define success in the NFL? What shape would you like your journey to take in the NFL?” LAFB asked.
“Yeah, I don’t think you can put a number on it. You know, I just want to add value to whatever quarterback room I go to. You know, whether that’s coming in and playing right away. And helping the team out or it’s supporting the starter and being, the same guy every single day. So whatever I can bring, you know, I feel like I’m capable and ready to go out there and play,” he said.
How Tyler Shough Might Fit With Los Angeles Rams

At this point, one could argue that Shough is in a place where he could be considered a developmental prospect. However, it might be a shorter development time than other prospects.
That’s because Shough spent a whopping seven years at the college level. His college journey began in 2018 with the Oregon Ducks, before he transferred to Texas Tech. After another three years there, he ended up at Louisville.

After spending so much time in college and in several different systems, he might be able to adjust to the NFL quicker than a traditional prospect.
His most recent year was also his best, racking up 23 touchdowns and six interceptions, showing a level of promise in that regard as well. As such, it might only take a year or two to get him up to speed in the background, with a chance of an even quicker turnaround.
With Stafford’s future undecided, the Los Angeles Rams have no choice but to take steps to consider the alternative, even if it ends up being a ways away.
