As the Los Angeles Rams wrapped up their second week of training camp at Loyola Marymount University, the team will now move into joining practices and preseason games.
Here are some key observations that I noticed while at camp.
Los Angeles Rams Training Camp Observations From Week 2
Los Angeles Rams Safety Quentin Lake Will Be Tasked With A LOT
Safety Quentin Lake has been a standout during camp, showcasing his versatility and intelligence on the field. The Rams are counting on Lake to fill multiple roles in the secondary, making him a crucial piece in their defensive scheme.
He was often seen covering whoever came out of the slot, which typically was Cooper Kupp. Lake and Kupp only made each other better throughout practices and he didn’t let the vet get the better of him.

Braden Fiske Gave It His All During Camp
Defensive lineman Braden Fiske has made a significant impression with his relentless work ethic. Every single report out of camp was just how Fiske was barreling through guys, and after seeing him with my own eyes, he gave 110% on every rep.
The WR Room Is Deep
The wide receiver group has been a highlight of camp, with several players making strong impressions. Veterans like Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson continue to impress, while newcomers like Tyler Johnson and Jordan Whittington have shown potential to become valuable assets.
Whittington in particular was out early and stayed late at nearly every practice which could mean a good season from another Rams rookie WR.
Johnson and Whittington are going to battle Tutu Atwell for WR4 this season, as both got some reps with the first-team offense and took advantage.
The Defense Is Going To Be Young And Hungry
The Rams’ defense will feature a younger lineup this season, bringing energy and a desire to prove themselves. Throughout the entirety of camp any time the defense had a sack or interception their entire sideline erupted in cheers.
This youthful exuberance is expected to translate into a more aggressive and dynamic defensive unit under coach Chris Shula.
When I asked Bobby Brown about the energy on defense he cited the fact that they’re all young guys looking to prove themselves.
Expect The Special Teams Unit To Improve
Special teams have been a focus during camp, with coordinator Chase Blackburn refining their approach. Every practice had some sort of special teams drill going on, and Atwell, Kyren Williams, and Xavier Smith were the guys returning kicks.
The introduction of Joshua Karty and the new kickoff rule and an emphasis on execution at camp shows that the team knows where they need to improve.

When Matthew Stafford Is On He’s On
Matthew Stafford has displayed his exceptional arm talent during camp, particularly on some tight throws that only a veteran makes. His ability to lock in and deliver the ball while simultaneously knowing where everyone needs to be is one of the best tools in his toolbag.
This is a quarterback you want on your football team, just ball and nothing else when the season comes rolling around.
Cooper Kupp Is Back
Cooper Kupp’s return to form after injuries has been one of the most encouraging signs for the Los Angeles Rams. His chemistry with Stafford and his ability to make big plays have been evident throughout the practices.
You can tell that he and Stafford are on the same page for every play and that he’s the guy that is going to be looked at first. From the eye test, Kupp looked just as good as he’s ever been.
Blake Corum And Kyren Williams Are Going To Split Time
The backfield will see a rotation between Blake Corum and Kyren Williams. Both running backs got work with the first-team offense and were nearly indistinguishable. This rotation will allow the Rams to utilize similar play styles and keep both guys fresh.

The Defensive Line Is Going To Rotate
How do you fill an Aaron Donald-sized hole? You fill it with 3x the players and a first-round pick that’s going to get to the QB.
Between all the rookies and second-year guys, the defensive line is likely going to feature some rotating players this season.
During practice, guys like Brennan Jackson and Bobby Brown came on the first team defense in relief of the starters which could point to a rotation on the defensive line.
Watch Out For Kamren Curl
Kamren Curl has been an underrated yet impactful addition to the Rams. As a “budget” free agent, Curl has demonstrated exceptional talent and adaptability, quickly becoming a key player in the Rams’ defensive setup.
Coach Shula shouted him out, stating that he was surprised at how quickly he was able to take to this new playbook. His ability to play a hybrid role should be interesting to watch, as he can do it all on defense.
