Football has just kicked off but we headed into week 3 with the LA showdown. The two LA teams, the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers faced each other on Sunday afternoon. The team that ended up on top? Well, the Rams took the win against the Chargers 35-23. Leaving the Rams with a 3-0 undefeated record, and the Chargers with a 1-2 record.
Things seemed to look good for Rams Quarterback Jared Goff who completed 29 out of 36 attempts, with 3 touchdowns for a total of 354 yards. This game also marked back to back games with 350+ passing yards for Goff, making him the 4th Rams Quarterback to do so.
Running Back Todd Gurley fumbled the ball early on which was recovered by Chargers cornerback Desmond King. However, his mistake did not seem to faze the Rams and Gurley answered right back with a one-yard touchdown run. Gurley finished the game with 105 yards rushing and currently ranks 4th in rushing yards with 255.
Another mishap in the game was when Chargers rookie Derwin James got his first career interception after picking off Goff in the end zone. Unfortunate, but again this did not seem to interrupt the mood of the Rams. They were even faced with injuries from Aqib Talib (high ankle sprain) and Marcus Peters (calf strain). But with these adversities, the Rams did not let down. You could tell that they were feeding off the energy and were there to dominate.
A huge notable play in the game was with Drew Kaser’s blocked punt in the end zone by Cory Littleton and recovered by Blake Countess for a touchdown. Goff also connected with Cooper Kupp for a 53-yard scoring touchdown. The Rams’ offense finished the game with a total of 521 yards, making it the first time since 2006 that the Rams had over 500 yards in a game.
Without hesitation, the star of the game was Jared Goff who now ranks 3rd in the NFL in passing yards with 941. So what does this mean for the Rams moving forward? Well as they are one out of three of the NFL’s undefeated teams, it is safe to say they are off to a great start. We can only hope that the offense continues to put up the numbers and that the defense continues to do their job. The Rams will face the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night Football, who lost to the Buffalo Bills 27-6 last Sunday.
