Will The 2022 Rams Beat Their Rushing Total From Last Season

The Rams finished last season with 1683 yards rushing. They were 25th in the league in yards and 23rd in attempts. In the playoffs, it fell off even further. They averaged 2.7 yards per carry, the worst among playoff teams. The result? A Super Bowl Championship!

The debate about the position and relevance of the ground game is a hotly contested one among Rams fans and the football world at large. So what say you? Should the Rams be running the ball more? Will a healthy Cam Akers affect how the 2022 Rams run the ball?

2020 was a high watermark for rushing attempts in the Sean McVay offense. They rushed the ball 473 times. 53 more times than 2021. Akers and Darrell Henderson shared duties pretty equally with Akers rushing 145 times and Henderson with 138. They made the playoffs but fell short of this year’s glory.

The 2022 Rams running back room added Kyren Williams in the draft. It is not unusual for the Rams to draft a running back, but they traded up for Williams. This is a very uncharacteristic move for the Rams. Could this be a signal to an increased role of the backs?   He will join an increasingly crowded room joining Akers, Henderson as well as Jake Funk.
