Los Angeles Dodgers Have Already Identified Their Next 3 Japanese Prospects

The Los Angeles Dodgers concluded their historic two-game series against the Chicago Cubs in Tokyo, securing victories in both unprecedented Opening Day matchups. Beyond the on-field action, the Dodgers’ presence in Japan held significant cultural weight.

The Dodgers’ connection to Japan runs deep, with manager Dave Roberts, reigning National League MVP Shohei Ohtani, Opening Day starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and phenom Roki Sasaki all hailing from the country.

While playing at the Tokyo Dome was a privilege, Vice President of player personnel Galen Carr also focused on future Japanese prospects. “If you ask me about the next five years in Japan, I could name at least three really interesting names that we’re going to be looking at moving forward and have our eyes on,” Carr told the LA Times.

President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman emphasized the Dodgers’ long-term vision for attracting Japanese talent.

“In our ideal world, kids are growing up in Japan, watching Dodger games, being a fan of the team. And when they have a decision to make, that gives us some advantage in the process,” Friedman said. This vision aligns with Friedman’s earlier statement about “painting Japan Dodger blue” following Ohtani’s $700 million contract.

Manager Dave Roberts believes the team achieved this goal during their time in Japan. “I think our mission was accomplished,” said Roberts.

The future of Japanese baseball is promising, and the Dodgers’ front office is committed to ensuring a strong connection to the region’s talent
