3 Los Angeles Dodgers Players Now Confirmed To Have Suffered With Severe Stomach Illness

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts recently endured a challenging period, battling an illness reported by the LA Times as norovirus, which lasted for over two weeks. During this time, he experienced significant weight loss, shedding nearly 20 pounds, and struggled to keep solid foods down.

Just as the team prepared for Opening Day, it was revealed that utility player Enrique Hernández was also facing a stomach bug, characterized by vomiting and an inability to retain solid foods.

“I got a text from him earlier today that he wasn’t feeling well and didn’t sleep well and couldn’t keep stuff down,” manager Dave Roberts disclosed before the game. “(We’re) trying to just get some fluids in him, rest up, and hopefully we can stay away from him. But let’s just hope that it’s not what Mookie dealt with.”

Adding to the concern, right-handed reliever Michael Kopech revealed that he had also experienced a similar, though less severe, stomach ailment during the past month. Kopech, who is currently on the injured list with right shoulder impingement, did not travel with the team to Japan.

While Kopech and Betts have since recovered, Hernández is currently experiencing the acute phase of his illness. The Dodgers are hoping that Hernández’s condition is less severe than Betts’s, as a similar bout could potentially sideline him for the next week or more.
