Los Angeles Dodgers Get Big Update On Dave Roberts Contract

Los Angeles Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts is currently entering the final year of the three-year contract he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022, and discussions regarding a potential extension are ongoing. It’s anticipated that the Dodgers will match or exceed the compensation package that Craig Counsell received from the Chicago Cubs, which was a five-year, $40 million contract, luring him away from the Milwaukee Brewers.

For Roberts, the primary focus is not solely on financial gain. However, he does acknowledge the significant value he brings to the Dodgers organization and believes that should be reflected in his compensation.

When questioned about whether he believes he should be the highest-paid manager in Major League Baseball, Roberts responded with carefully chosen words.

“That’s a hard question,” Roberts said. “I just think it all comes down to value. And I think whatever anyone does, they want their value. That’s kind of where I’m at. I’m hopeful things get done.

“But it’s not (a goal) to be the highest-paid manager. If that’s the fallout, fine. But that’s not why I do my job. I do my job because I love baseball, I love the Dodgers and I love the players. But I do feel the body of work is pretty dang good.”

Managers often bear the brunt of criticism for losses while receiving less recognition for victories. However, Roberts’s strategic decisions for the Dodgers last season merit considerable praise, and perhaps a raise.

Notably, during a pivotal moment in the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres, Roberts masterfully navigated an eight-pitcher bullpen game, securing a shutout victory. This pivotal game proved to be a turning point for the Dodgers.

The team subsequently won Game 5, advanced to claim the National League pennant over the New York Mets in six games, and ultimately secured the World Series championship at Yankee Stadium in five games.

“I know that I’ll have a job in baseball,” Roberts said in September. “I have a contract for next year. I’m not too concerned about job security. I just want to win another championship for the city of Los Angeles.”
