Los Angeles Dodgers New Infielder Shines In Triple-A Win After Big League Struggle

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ decision to trade starting second baseman Gavin Lux shortly after acquiring KBO infielder Hyeseong Kim initially suggested a direct replacement scenario. However, spring training revealed a different narrative as Kim faced challenges adjusting to major league pitching.

While Kim’s defensive prowess was evident, manager Dave Roberts acknowledged the need for offensive development.

“Defensively, I think it’ll be very seamless,” Roberts stated. “Offensively, there’s certainly more velocity. Controlling, getting his path right. Being able to handle balls that move late, handle velocity, and use the whole field. He’s going to put the ball in play. He can run. I just think he needs repetition.”

Consequently, Kim began the season in the minor leagues, focusing on refining his offensive skills. This decision appears to be paying dividends, as Kim has demonstrated a strong start at Triple-A. In a recent game for the Oklahoma City Comets, he hit .286 with a 1.158 OPS, recording a double, a triple, and four RBIs in their 8-2 victory over the Space Cowboys.

Kim’s decision to join Los Angeles, despite offers from other teams, highlighted his determination to compete for a spot on the defending champions’ roster. His early success in the minors suggests he is progressing on the right path.

If Kim maintains his current level of production, the team may consider promoting him to the major league roster sooner rather than later.
