Los Angeles Dodgers Close To Breaking 1st Record Of The Season

Tyler Glasnow’s dominant performance on the mound, blanking the Atlanta Braves across five innings, propelled the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-1 victory on Monday night at Dodger Stadium, further extending their undefeated start to the 2025 season. This victory places the Dodgers among elite company, joining the 1985 Tigers and the 1933 Yankees as only the third defending World Series champion to begin a season with six or more consecutive wins.

Their 6-0 record also marks the best start for the Dodgers since their move to Los Angeles in 1958, equaling the 1981 team’s record, which went on to win the World Series that year. Glasnow’s outing was particularly impressive, striking out eight and allowing only two singles, with the first hit coming in the fifth inning. “That was kind of the nastiest I’ve seen him,” Braves center fielder Michael Harris II remarked, highlighting Glasnow’s impactful performance.

Glasnow’s career has been punctuated by injuries, making his consistent health a key factor for the Dodgers. Despite being the Opening Day starter, he has been somewhat overlooked in a rotation that includes Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki, and Dustin May. However, when healthy, Glasnow has proven his value, posting a 3.49 ERA across 22 starts and 134 innings last season.

Determined to address his injury history, Glasnow made significant adjustments to his delivery and throwing program during the offseason. “I think after I got hurt the first time,” Glasnow said, “it’s like you keep messing around with stuff and try to fix things. And I think this year it’s, like, an accumulation of everything.” Notably, he has discontinued the use of weighted balls, opting for a more traditional approach focused on distance and reduced effort.

Glasnow’s mental approach has also evolved, focusing on staying aggressive and trusting his pitches. This was evident in Monday’s game, where he overcame a shaky start, retiring three straight batters after walking two. “Just kind of getting hitters and staying aggressive and trusting his stuff,” manager Dave Roberts noted. “And you can see the conviction of the breaking ball today. There’s a lot of bad swings with that pitch. And then the fastball played. I think tonight was a good stepping stone going forward.”

Glasnow’s health and performance will be crucial if the Dodgers aim to achieve their goal of back-to-back World Series titles. His commitment to staying on the mound throughout the season suggests he is ready to play a pivotal role in their pursuit.
