New Trade Idea Sends Los Angeles Dodgers Promising Young RHP To AL Rival

For the Orioles, this move addresses their need to bolster their pitching rotation following the departure of Corbin Burnes. Despite exploring options to acquire established aces during the offseason, the Orioles were unable to secure a replacement. With limited options and a substantial payroll, the team might find that investing in a high-upside player like Miller is their most viable strategy.

Miller, who impressed as a rookie in 2023 with ace-caliber pitches and a strong Stuff+ ranking, experienced a setback in 2024 due to a shoulder injury. Currently outside the Dodgers’ rotation plans, Miller would find a ready-made opportunity in Baltimore.

Conversely, the Dodgers, despite their initial depth in pitching, faced significant injury challenges in 2024. However, Miller, who turns 26 in April, is not currently in their immediate rotation plans, having been optioned to the minors. The Dodgers might prioritize the potential returns of Tony Gonsolin and Clayton Kershaw over Miller, if they are healthy. This trade would offer Miller a change of scenery.

In exchange, the Dodgers would acquire Vance Honeycutt, a 21-year-old outfielder with plus speed and power. While Honeycutt’s batting skills are currently considered below average, the Dodgers could leverage their development resources to refine his hitting and potentially establish him as a long-term fixture in center field.
