If there is one thing the Lincoln Riley’s offense needs other than a stud quarterback, it is a constant stream of pass-catching talent. The USC Trojans added another wide receiver this weekend. Jay Fair, formerly of Auburn, committed to USC with two years of eligibility remaining.
“Couple reasons it felt like the move to me is the academics and the degree from this university is amazing, and the opportunities that come with it are once-in-a-lifetime,” Fair explained in a message to WeAreSC’s Scott Schrader. “From a football aspect, Coach [Dennis] Simmons and [Lincoln] Riley have been together and in sync for a long time offensively. This program has the most receivers drafted out of the program, and the development that coach Simmons can do is something that can help take my game to the next level. I just felt a genuine family atmosphere and I’m ready to go to work and be the best version of me for this program.”
USC Trojans Add Much-Needed WR Help
Fair will be a key piece in the rebuilt WR corps that lost Brenden Rice and Tahj Washington to the NFL draft and Mario Williams and Raleek Brown, both transferred during the first portal window.
He joins Zachariah Branch and Makai Lemon as inside/slot receivers.
The 5’10” 186 lbs slot receiver caught 31 passes for 324 yards last year in 13 games for the Tigers. Almost 42 percent of his catches went for first downs. He also has just one drop in 51 targets. As a track athlete in high school, Fair posted an impressive 23.33 200-meter dash.
