First USC Trojans Player Selected In NFL Draft, And His Draft Party Looked Epic

Unlike Ohio State, Michigan, or Oregon, the USC Trojans prospects had to wait a little while to hear their name called during the NFL Draft, but cornerback Jaylin Smith would get the call before Day 2 ended.

With the 97th Pick, the Houston Texans selected the talented Trojan.

Smith is the Trojans’ 531st all-time drafted player, and he is the 14th defensive back drafted since 2010. He will join former teammate Calen Bullock, who was drafted by the Texans last year and had a fantastic rookie season.

During his time with the USC Trojans, Smith finished with 182 tackles, 12.5 for loss, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 interceptions.

Last year, his first in D’Anton Lynn’s system, he saw his game drastically improve. He recorded 59 tackles, 4 for loss, 2 pass break-ups, and 2 interceptions. He earned All-Big Ten Third Team honors.

He was always a very smart player, but his tackling is what improved the most last season as he became one of the most reliable in that department on the team.

Calen Bullock was with Smith at his draft party, along with his position coach Doug Belk and DC D’Anton Lynn. Snoop Dogg, who Smith played for in his youth playing days, FaceTimed the future Texan after he was drafted.
