The legendary Lee Corso announced today that he will be retiring from College GameDay, after a historic run that began in 1987.
“My family and I will be forever indebted for the opportunity to be part of ESPN and College GameDay for nearly 40 years,” Corso said in a statement released by ESPN. “I have a treasure of many friends, fond memories, and some unusual experiences to take me into retirement.”
Corso will turn 90 on August 7.
Aside from his analysis and charm, Corso became famous for his team picks and rocking the program’s headgear, a segment that began in October of 1995.
When it comes to the USC Trojans, Lee Corso has an all-time legendary record in picking the Men of Troy.

His first correct pick for a USC Trojans win came back in 2004, when he picked Pete Carroll’s team to beat the Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl.
He would then rattle off 16 more correct picks in the Trojan helmet, while brandishing a playful sword. His final headgear pick on GameDay for USC was once again predicting a Rose Bowl victory, this one in 2017 against Penn State.
A true GOAT, and one that will be missed on Saturdays.
One other side note. College GameDay featured the USC Trojans, weather on campus in LA, at their opponent’s campus, or for the Rose Bowl, 15 times in 5 years from 2004 to 2009. It has featured USC just twice since 2009 (2013 and 2017), and not once since 2017.
Hopefully, we see the College GameDay crew back on the historic Los Angeles campus this season and many times to come.
