Rob Ryan Had Surprising Remark About Lincoln Riley And Sean McVay During USC Trojans Press Conference

Rob Ryan just had his opening press conference with the USC Trojans, and boy, was it a fun one. I was fortunate to be in attendance, and the amount of soundbites that came from it is remarkable.

Two things were very clear, Rob Ryan is a fantastic football coach with a wealth of knowledge, and Ryan is a fantastic personality that is going to make this team a lot of fun to be around.

Of the many great things that were said, in his opening remarks, he had very high praise for both LA football coaches; his now colleague Lincoln Riley, and Sean McVay.

“…I’m joining the best coaching staff in the Country. Lincoln Riley is right there with McVay. They’re the best offensive coaches, the best guys in the Country. I don’t care what league it is. That’s just the truth, and I’ve been around some good ones,” Rob Ryan said.

While things can be said in press conferences that get taken out of context or over-embellished, the truth is that Ryan could have simply said that Riley is a good coach and he is joining an elite staff. The fact that he brought up that he is the best offensive mind in football, alongside Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay, should carry a lot of weight.

Ryan has coached with a lot of great offensive minds, including one who many consider the best ever in Sean Payton. The man knows what he is talking about.

Going 8-5 and 7-6 in back-to-back seasons is not acceptable at USC, we all know that. However, it is very evident that Lincoln Riley’s name is still one of the most respected amongst his peers and within coaching and personnel circles.

You don’t build a staff like he has without having the respect of your peers and the belief in a common vision.
