I don’t expect the USC Trojans to be extremely active in the spring transfer portal, but there are some quality players that they will look at adding who can provide depth and experience. One position that could use more quality bodies for the 2025 season is the linebacker room.
As it stands, Eric Gentry and Desman Stephens II are slotted as the potential starters. Anthony Beavers is officially moving from the safety room to LB, so he can provide some versatility, and redshirt freshman Jadyn Walker has been a standout in spring camp.
After that, there is no experience on the depth chart, and Stephens II and Walker’s 2024 classmate, Elijah Newby, moved over to the EDGE room.

The 2025 class features 4-star backers Matai Tagoa’i and AJ Tuitele. There is a lot of excitement surrounding both, but neither will arrive on campus until June.
Linebacker depth is the biggest need in the portal.
Earlier today, we wrote that Boise State linebacker Andrew Simpson would be visiting USC, and the St. John Bosco product has a very solid chance of committing.
But another standout LB is also set to visit with Rob Ryan and the Trojans.
Gary Bryant III Set To Visit USC Trojans
According to Chris Hummer of 247 Sports, the all-conference linebacker from South Dakota is set to visit the USC Trojans, and according to On3, that visit will be as early as this weekend.

Bryant posted 103 tackles, 4 TFLs and 2 INTs last season as a sophomore. Also posted an 84.5 PFF grade. https://t.co/2iR0jnJShH pic.twitter.com/0sTN8VukXA
At South Dakota last season, Bryant finished with an astounding 103 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 2 interceptions as a sophomore.
While the competition may be a drop-off from Big Ten play, that kind of experience is valuable and makes Bryant a hot commodity.
He also has visits scheduled with Cal and West Virginia.
