USC Trojans Set To Lose First Player In Spring Transfer Portal

The Spring Transfer portal does not officially open until April 16th, but the USC Trojans already know of one player they will be losing.

Per Mike Roach of 247 Sports, running back A’Marion Peterson plans to enter the portal in the Spring window and take his 3 years of eligibility elsewhere.

While you never want to see any players leave your program, this comes as no surprise and is probably what is best for both sides.

USC Trojans RB A’Marion Peterson To Enter Transfer Portal

Peterson was part of the highly-touted 2023 recruiting class that has since seen most of its members transfer out. His running back partner in the class, Quinten Joyner, transferred to Texas Tech in the Winter.

Peterson is a really good running back, and he will find a home quickly. Unfortunately, he fell victim to a deep and talented room and just couldn’t find playing time.

Last season, Mississippi State transfer Woody Marks was the featured back, with Quinten Joyner playing the role of RB2. True freshman Brian Jackson was worked into the rotation as the season went on.

In the Las Vegas Bowl, both Jackson and Peterson nearly split carries (Jackson 16, Peterson 12), so there was potential that Peterson would head into the 2025 season with a much bigger role.

However, JUCO standout Waymond Jordan committed to the USC Trojans, and New Mexico speedster Eli Sanders transferred in. Couple that with freshmen Riley Wormley and Harry Dalton rounding out the 2025 class, and Peterson was shuffled down the depth chart again.

This is one of the good reasons for the transfer portal. Some players just can’t quite break through to get on the field, so it allows them to find a program where they can have more opportunity to get featured.

A’Marion Peterson will now have that opportunity and should absolutely shine.
