USC Football: LSU Tigers Could Be Without Emerging Playmaker

LSU wide receiver Chris Hilton is uncertain to play in Sunday’s game against USC Football due to an ankle injury. The speedster has been out of practice for the past week after hurting his ankle during training camp.

Tigers head coach Brian Kelly updated Hilton’s status on Wednesday during his weekly appearance on the SEC Teleconference.

“We had (about an hour practice on Monday) and he was working on getting in and out of routes, precision work,” Kelly said on Wednesday. “We’ll accelerate that to the next phase, and we’ll see where he is. I know he wants to play. I know he’s working towards playing on Sunday. We’ll see how the week goes.”

With Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. off to the NFL via the 2024 Draft, LSU looks to replace over 2700 yards of production and 31 touchdowns.

Hilton is a red-shirt junior. The 6′ 190 pounder played just over 200 offensive snaps and he caught 13 passes on 23 targets for 225 yards last season.

LSU also added graduate transfer CJ Daniels via the transfer portal. Last season with the Liberty Flames, he caught 55 passes for 1067 yards and touchdowns.

If Hilton can’t go, redshirt freshman Kyle Parker is expected to fill in as the starting wide receiver. Parker has shown significant improvement in his catching, blocking, and route running, earning the trust of the coaching staff.

As of Thursday, Hilton’s status remains up in the air, and the Tigers will have to wait and see if they can get their top receiver on the field for Sunday’s matchup.
