The USC Trojans are not anticipated to make a large number of player acquisitions through the transfer portal this spring. However, general manager Chad Bowden, head coach Lincoln Riley, and their staff will remain attentive to potential opportunities.
Notre Dame safety Kennedy Urlacher, son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Brian Urlacher, is exploring leaving the school after one season. Urlacher told Hayes Fawcett of On3.com he is entering the portal.
This decision comes as a bit of a surprise given how highly Brian Urlacher spoke about Irish head coach Marcus Freeman during the team’s run to the College Football Playoff Championship Game in January.
USC Trojans Included In Potential Kennedy Urlacher Transfer Portal Options

Griffin McVeigh of On3.com noted Kansas State, Miami, Illinois, Penn State and TCU were among the schools Urlacher was considering last year before deciding on ND. Shortly after the Urlacher news broke, Tom Loy of 247 Sports threw USC into the mix via social media, posting, “Watch out for USC here.”
USC recently signed a phenomenal group of defensive backs in the 2025 recruiting class. However, it’s uncertain whether those players are ready for significant playing time immediately, especially considering how much D’Anton Lynn relied on veteran players last season. The safety position, in particular, is well constructed with Kamari Ramsey considered a lock as a starter, and Bishop Fitzgerald and Christian Pierce also showing great strides in the right direction
While the defensive back position may not be an absolute need, the Trojans could pursue a transfer if the right fit becomes available, particularly at the nickel position.
