USC Trojans Bolster Defensive Line After Officially Flipping Elite Local Talent

After decommitting from Oregon last week, Mater Dei defensive lineman Tomuhini Topui has officially committed to the USC Trojans.

There was speculation this would happen as he was on the Trojans’ campus when the decommitment was announced, and he was on campus again today.

DL Tomuhini Topui Commits To USC Trojans

Topui is the 15th-ranked defensive lineman in the 2026 class, according to On3 Industry Rankings. In reality, he will probably move much higher than that after his senior season at Mater Dei.

247 Sports ranks him as the 13th best DL, Rivals ranks him as the 5th, and ESPN puts him 3rd. On3 is the big outlier ranking Topui 49th, which pushed his industry ranking way down. Many in the area and close to the Mater Dei program say “Tom Tom” may end up as the No. 1 DL in the entire class when it is said and done.

He has the rare combination of speed and power for his size (6’2, 330) and absolutely dominated the line of scrimmage last season during the Monarchs’ historic run.

He joins an already very talented interior DL room in the 2026 class. He will join Jaimeon Winfield, Braeden Jones, and Malik Brooks.

He also joins EDGE Simote Katoanga as being the top player at their position in the state of California to commit to USC.

This is a huge win for the USC Trojans as not only did that get a commitment from a very talented local player, but they also flipped him from rival Oregon. It is also a huge win in restoring a pipeline to Mater Dei, and the Polynesian community. This one commitment could have a massive domino effect on the later.
