Yesterday, the son of legendary Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher, Kennedy Urlacher, entered the transfer portal and immediately became one of the top players available. The USC Trojans were linked as a possible destination, but it was unknown at the time if they would pursue the soon-to-be sophomore safety.
This morning, On3’s Steve Wiltfong revealed that the USC Trojans are the team to watch for to earn a commitment.

The former 4-star prospect entered the portal with a do-not-contact tag. Typically, this means that they already have their mind made up on where they are transferring to, but not always. According to Wiltfong, he is expected to visit USC this weekend, along with many other high-priority recruits.
The big connection between Urlacher and USC is the Trojans new GM Chad Bowden, who was previously with Notre Dame and heavily involved in his recruitment, as he is with all recruits.

Bowden has put a huge emphasis on relationship building. Those relationships don’t just cease to exist when someone moves or changes jobs. It would not be surprising if Urlacher feels compelled to return to the West Coast (he is from Chandler, Arizona) and reunite with Bowden at USC.
The question will be how he fits with the roster. While safety is not necessarily a need, it is always prudent to have more depth, especially with a player who is just a sophomore.
However, where he can really make an impact is on special teams. As a freshman last year, he played in all 14 games, primarily on special teams. He finished last year with 12 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a PBU.
