Brandon Staley’s time with the Los Angeles Chargers has come and gone. However, he has managed to pick himself up by the bootstraps after a season working under Kyle Shanahan as an assistant head coach. He recently found a way back into the Saints’ coordinator position that made him a household name with the Los Angeles Rams.
Still, even after more than a year of Jim Harbaugh, division rivals haven’t forgotten about Staley’s tenure with the Los Angeles Chargers. Speaking exclusively to LAFB on February 6, Broncos insider for DNVR Zac Stevens took what seemed to be a covert shot at Brandon Staley.
Asked about Jim Harbaugh, Stevens described him as the “adult in the room.” He went on to say that he was someone they needed, seemingly suggesting that Staley was not an adult or in other words, he was in over his head.
“They got exactly what they needed with Jim Harbaugh. He’s the coach to be the adult in the room. That’s someone they needed. And they’re a force to be reckoned with. I think the Broncos and Chargers can both push the Chiefs this year. Obviously, until it actually happens and someone knocks off the Chiefs, I’m not going to believe it until I see it,” he said. “But I think they’re both really good teams in terms of Broncos and Chargers and the Chargers had the Broncos number this year. So they’re number two in the division until the Broncos can knock them off.”
Of course, Jim Harbaugh’s team went on to sweep the Denver Broncos, further proving Stevens’ point. Stevens went out of his way to not throw shade at the 2024 Chargers, even admitting that the Chargers set the tone over the Broncos in the AFC West.
Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh Isn’t Going Anywhere

According to Business Insider, the Chargers head coach was locked up under a five-year contract. With an 11-win season and four years remaining on his current deal, it is clear that Harbaugh has no intentions to go anywhere.
He also has given the Bolts no reason to move on from him. Even if he struggles for some unknown reason in 2025, he would most likely have 2026 to bounce back.

Even then, if he struggled, he might get one last shot in 2027. In simpler terms, his one great season has bought three seasons of leash. However, armed with Justin Herbert, the floor for the Chargers seems remarkably high. Herbert threw the fewest interceptions of his career in 2024 and earned his highest passer rating.
If there’s more where that came from, Harbaugh has little to worry about.
