Video: Chargers Huge Must-See Run Sets Up Go-Ahead Field Goal

The Los Angeles Chargers offense has struggled to find much traction in the first half of their game against the New Orleans Saints, but team captain and under-centerman Justin Herbert is pulling out the stops to spark enough momentum to put points on the board.

At the time of the play, the Saints were up 2-0 at the end of the first quarter when they regained possession. On the first play of the game, offensive coordinator Greg Roman dialed up a passing play, but Herbert quickly decided to let his feet do the talking.

He tucked the ball and left New Orleans defensive tackle Khalen Saunders in the dust. Herbert then kicked it into high gear to bisect two more defenders, linebacker Willie Gay and defensive end Cameron Jordan, before finally getting knocked out of bounds after a 38-yard scamper.

Most importantly, the play set up the Bolts’ first points of the game — a 46-yard field goal, going up 3-2.

It was also the longest offensive play of the game at the time.

With 9:30 left in the first half, Herbert had completed six of 12 passes for just 37 yards.
