The Los Angeles Chargers have generally received positive reviews for their offseason moves, particularly as the initial wave of free agency concludes. While they haven’t made any headline-grabbing acquisitions, despite having significant cap space, key players like Khalil Mack have returned, and the offense has been bolstered with additions such as running back Najee Harris, wide receiver Mike Williams, and guard Mekhi Becton.
It Is Time For The Los Angeles Chargers To Address Tight End

However, a strategic trade could elevate their offseason to another level, creating a significant impact. Specifically, acquiring tight-end Dallas Goedert from the Philadelphia Eagles presents a compelling opportunity. Reports from Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz indicate the Eagles are open to trading Goedert, with NFL insider Josina Anderson reporting they seek at least a fourth-round pick.
The Chargers currently only have one tight end with significant playing time under his belt, Will Dissly. But while he played valiantly as a pass catcher, his game leaves plenty to be desired.
Goedert is a manageable price for the Chargers, who possess ample draft capital. Goedert’s $12 million cap hit in 2025 and the potential for a contract extension are also manageable for the Chargers, known for their effective cap management. A trade for Goedert would provide Justin Herbert with a reliable, 6’5” target, who averages 11.7 yards per catch. It would also alleviate the pressure to draft a tight end early, a position of need given the current depth chart.
LA has demonstrated a willingness to be aggressive, as seen in their move to acquire Ladd McConkey in last year’s draft. Acquiring Goedert would be the “splash” move fans have been anticipating. The prospect of Goedert, McConkey, Mike Williams, and a high draft pick rookie in a run-first offense would create a dynamic and exciting offensive unit for Herbert.
