Los Angeles Chargers All-Pro Openly Pleading For More Offensive Weapons

The Los Angeles Chargers enjoyed a resurgence in the 2024 NFL season, exceeding expectations under the leadership of new head coach Jim Harbaugh. The team clinched a playoff berth with an impressive 11-6 record, marking a significant improvement.

Despite all those good steps in the right direction, there is one glaring weakness — competent and consistent wide receivers for quarterback Justin Herbert. In their playoff loss to the Houston Texans, only one pass catcher caught for more than 16 yards, Ladd McConkey.

From analysts to fans, everyone can see what the Chargers need to do. Now that extends to players. Chargers All-Pro safety, Derwin James made an appeal to free agent wide receiver Tee Higgins while on Micah Parsons’ “The Edge” podcast.

“Hey, what’s up Tee? Tee, any receiver out there, like what’s up? What’s happening? Let’s go do it,” James said.

James’ top selling point would be having Herbert target him.

“Who wouldn’t want to play with Herbert?” James said.

Higgins is widely regarded to be the top free agent among all players, not just wide receivers. That comes with it the expectation that he will reset the WR contract market — meaning he will likely make over $30 million per year.

The 6 foot 4, 2220 pounder would complement, McConkey well not just from a size perspective, but also add a threat to the perimeter. Higgins had 73 catches for 911 yards and scored 10 touchdowns in 12 games in 2024.
