Latest Los Angeles Chargers Mock Draft Called “Ideal Scenario For Jim Harbaugh”

The Los Angeles Chargers’ first season under Jim Harbaugh concluded with a disappointing playoff exit, but optimism remains high, fueled by the presence of Justin Herbert and strategic offseason acquisitions.

The Chargers bolstered their roster by adding running back Najee Harris and re-signing wide receiver Mike Williams, among other key pieces. With the No. 22 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Chargers have multiple avenues to further enhance their team.

In a recent mock draft by ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum, the Chargers are projected to select Michigan tight end Colston Loveland, reuniting Harbaugh with a familiar player.

“This is an ideal scenario for coach Jim Harbaugh. He could be reunited with his former tight end from his Michigan days and also fill a hole in the offense,” Tannenbaum wrote. “L.A. signed Tyler Conklin and has Will Dissly, but Loveland would jump them both on the depth chart to provide quarterback Justin Herbert with another top-tier option beyond Ladd McConkey. Loveland is a great route runner for a 6-foot-6 player, and he’d be a plug-and-play day one starter for the Chargers. He had 56 catches for 582 yards in 2024. (Loveland’s run blocking isn’t great, but I could see it improving given his work ethic.)”

This projection is likely to become a recurring theme in mock drafts, driven by the strong connection between Harbaugh and Loveland, who was a key contributor to Michigan’s national championship team. Furthermore, the Chargers’ need for a reliable tight end is evident. While the team signed veteran Tyler Conklin, his production has been modest.

In contrast, Loveland’s collegiate statistics at Michigan, which include 108 receptions for 1,353 yards and 11 touchdowns, highlight his potential impact. If he were to join the Chargers, he would significantly elevate their offensive capabilities.
