The Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive needs have dominated discussions in most mock drafts, and for good reason. The team’s search for a reliable wide receiver to complement Ladd McConkey is paramount, given the current lack of dependable options on their roster. Similarly, the need for a long-term solution at tight end, despite Tyler Conklin’s presence, has led to speculation linking them to Colston Loveland due to his connection with Jim Harbaugh.

However, this emphasis on offense doesn’t preclude the Chargers from addressing other critical areas in the first round. In a recent mock draft by Ian Valentino of The 33rd Team, the Chargers are projected to select Georgia linebacker Jalon Walker with the 22nd pick.
“One of the constant takeaways we’ve heard about how teams view the 2025 class is that the receiving class is good but not enough to reach for. While the Chargers need help on offense, their defensive front seven is one of the worst units in the NFL in terms of pure talent. Jalon Walker, a rangy middle linebacker with tremendous third-down pass rush value, helps solve two issues,” Valentino explains.
Walker’s versatility and impact, as highlighted by Valentino, would make him an ideal fit for the Chargers. His ability to contribute both in the middle of the field and as a pass rusher on third downs would significantly strengthen the team’s defensive front seven. However, Walker’s talent could make him a sought-after prospect, potentially leading to his selection before the Chargers’ turn. Should he be available, his addition would provide a substantial boost to the Chargers’ defense.
