Los Angeles Chargers Now Meeting With Top TE Ahead Of NFL Draft

The Los Angeles Chargers’ offseason acquisitions suggest a strategic approach by general manager Joe Hortiz and head coach Jim Harbaugh: positioning themselves to select the best available player in the first round of the upcoming draft. This strategy potentially increases the likelihood of the Chargers addressing their tight-end position with the No. 22 pick.

Given the premium value of tight ends, the need to rejuvenate their roster with younger talent, and the availability of high-potential players in the latter part of the first round, this move aligns with the team’s long-term interests.

According to Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, one tight end the Chargers have taken an interest in is LSU’s Mason Taylor. Pauline first reported the Chargers having an official visit set up with the 6 foot 5, 250 lbs end.

Taylor is the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end Jason Taylor and nephew of Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Zach Thomas.

Taylor possesses a promising blend of athleticism and potential that suggests significant growth lies ahead. Despite having only three seasons of experience, he demonstrates a smooth fluidity on the field, coupled with adequate acceleration.

With focused development, he has the tools to refine his route-running technique, becoming a more reliable target. He exhibits a keen awareness of defenders, showcasing sudden hands and heightened concentration when making crucial catches.

While Taylor is capable of handling blocking assignments in open space or while in motion, he may encounter challenges with in-line blocking, requiring further refinement in this area. His overall game, though still in need of polish, reveals a player with the capacity to evolve into a high-volume target for teams seeking an upgrade at the “F” tight end position.

His ability to feel defenders and his focus on catching when needed are key attributes to his game.
