Los Angeles Chargers Trade A Haul For Fan Favorite Pick In New Mock Draft

The Los Angeles Chargers, facing a critical need to bolster their receiving corps, are reportedly considering a trade-up scenario in the 2025 NFL Draft. With the Arizona Cardinals open to trading down, the Chargers see an opportunity to secure a top-tier wide receiver. According to Pro Football Focus, a potential trade would involve the Chargers moving up to the 16th overall pick, currently held by the Cardinals, to select Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden.

The Chargers’ relative inactivity during free agency has left a significant void at the wide receiver position. While the return of Mike Williams provides some relief, his recent struggles raise concerns.

“The Chargers were noticeably quiet during this offseason’s free-agent cycle, particularly as it pertains to one of the roster’s most glaring needs: wide receiver. The most notable addition to the receiving corps came in the form of Mike Williams’ return to the team that drafted him, but not before the veteran receiver failed to catch on with a pair of squads in 2024, torpedoing his grading profile in the process,” wrote Mason Cameron.

Recognizing the diminishing talent pool at the wide receiver position and the high demand from other teams, Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz is reportedly keen to act decisively.

“Considering the talent drop-off at the position and many teams being in need and drafting ahead of Los Angeles, general manager Joe Hortiz can’t afford to let an opportunity to add to the group slip past him a second time,” Cameron stated. The Chargers are reportedly considering moving up to secure a player like Matthew Golden, or potentially Tetairoa McMillan, should he be available.

The proposed trade would see the Chargers send their 22nd overall pick, along with picks 86 and 181, to the Cardinals. This move reflects the Chargers’ urgency to address their receiving needs and secure a player who can immediately contribute to their offense.
